Iro Iro | Daijiro Hama : Sato Gallery - Rotterdam

15 December 2023 - 20 January 2024
In his  solo exhibition 'Iro Iro' Daijiro Hama highlights the enchantment found in the unique combinations and interactions of colors, creating both collective harmony and individual magic.

In his first solo exhibition in Rotterdam, Daijiro Hama reflects on the individuality of everything in existence, noting that each entity possesses distinct traits, such as habits, features, size, and color. He emphasizes the importance of "iro" (color in Japanese) in conveying the “iro iro” (various in Japanse) conditions of objects.

Recently Daijiro Hama has been deeply interested in the color combinations found in creatures like animals, birds, fish, and insects. While these combinations may seem chaotic when focusing on individual colors, they create a beautiful harmony when viewed collectively.

With his latest work Daijiro uses color to represent landscapes and figures. The color of the landscape conveys situations, while the color of figures reflects individual characters. The creative process involves experimenting with different color combinations, including color gradations and deliberate choices of contrasting colors.

In his solo exhibition Iro Iro Daijiro Hama highlights the enchantment found in the unique combinations and interactions of colors, creating both collective harmony and individual magic. All works viewed together achieve a certain harmony, yet each painting maintains its individuality when examined on its own.
