Yufi Japan, b. 1990

Yufi’s world exists in between — between cultures, memories, and dreams — a quiet space where belonging becomes infinite

Born in Tokyo in 1990, Yufi  is a self-taught artist whose work explores the fragile boundaries between memory, dreams, and consciousness. Of Japanese, Korean, and Russian descent, she moved to the United States at the age of sixteen, an experience that profoundly shaped her visual language — a blend of nostalgic brightness and quiet melancholy.

Her paintings often depict imagined places that feel both lost and familiar, evoking the hazy space “in between” consciousness and subconsciousness. This liminal territory has become the core of her practice: a realm where emotions take form before words can describe them. Through soft fogs, pastel skies, and distant lights, Yamamoto captures moments of solitude and longing that resonate with universal memories.

Drawing inspiration from retro aesthetics, Los Angeles street and surf culture, and Japanese sensibility, her work carries a unique balance — at once dreamy and raw, cozy and lonely. The vibrant yet muted tones in her palette mirror the tension between outer calm and inner turbulence.

Yufi  has exhibited in Japan, Taiwan, France, and the United States, including participation at international showcases presented by The Curators. Her work continues to expand globally, resonating with audiences drawn to her introspective and cinematic approach to painting.
