Saiko Otake Japanese, b. 1988

Characterized by rich colors and bold compositions, Saiko Otake's works strongly conveys a distinctive perspective and meticulous attention to motif details. 

Saiko Otake was born in 1988 in Uwajima City, Ehime Prefecture, surrounded by the sea and mountains. Raised in an artistic home, she found joy in drawing and crafting from a young age and developed a rich sensibility and expressive ability. Her interests expanded beyond art and included movies, music, books, and profound curiosity in various cultures.

 

In 2016, she went to study graphic design at St. Martin's in London while simultaneously starting  photography projects, which she continues to pursue. Describing her own work as "collecting", she always carries a camera. Until now Saiko has published 15 photography books both domestically and internationally, in which she emphasizes both the layout and composition of her photos.

Her collections extend beyond photography to include vintage magazines and fashion publications. She has always been drawn not only to the colors and layouts of the pages but also to the female form and posing, reflecting in the prevalence of female motifs in her works.

In 2018, she held a solo exhibition, "KINMEGINME," at gallery ART UNLIMITED in Tokyo, followed by numorous successful exhibitions for amongst others NaDIff, Akio Nagasawa Gallery Aoyama, Parco Museum and Art Unlimited.  

 

Having experienced life in Uwajima, Tokyo, and London, she has honed her sensibilities and expresses her unique artistic world through various techniques like drawing, painting, photography, and collage. Characterized by rich colors and bold compositions, her works strongly conveys a distinctive perspective and meticulous attention to motif details.
